"At a time when we are marked by daily confrontation with violence, misery and all kinds of misfortunes... wouldn't it be better to act today rather than pray? So many struggles to be fought, so much work to be done, why afford the luxury of wasting such precious time?

Called to live in this world and in this time, we must walk on earth, but as citizens of heaven, with our hearts rooted in God, through prayer and contemplation. This attitude does not mean running away from conflicts, but it is a condition for a fruitful gift to others.

We must follow in Jesus' footsteps. During the time he lived among his own people he spent many hours in prayer, under the impulse of the Spirit.

Christians, animated by this same Spirit, are invited to make prayer the source of their daily life. In this way, it creates in them a climate of praise to the Lord, increases their faith, strengthens them in hope, leads them to give themselves to their brothers and sisters and to be faithful to their apostolic mission.

This is the spirit of this Collection of Prayers and Meditations. The prayers proposed by the author are not presented here as the only formula for prayer, but as a help, either in difficult moments when we cannot find words to turn to God, or as an inspiration to do so with our own words.
